Founded in 2019, The Production and Manufacturing Academy (PMI) was created to provide high school upperclassmen with hands-on opportunities to explore careers in engineering, welding, machining, esign, and more. What began as a small manufacturing consortium has doubled in size over the past six years. Today, PMI operates as adedicated program with the support of regional sponsors, ensuring its continued impact on the next generation of skilled professionals. Wagstaff, Inc. is a key sponsor, alongside other leading manufacturers, education entities and the community, including Mackay Manufacturing, Pearson Packaging Systems, Collins Aerospace, Machinists Institute, and Kaiser Aluminum.
This three-week interactive summer immersion program is designed for incoming high school juniors and seniors to expereince the full production and manufacturing environment. During the academy, students are grouped into teams to design, create, manufacture, promote and sell their own products. They gain hands-on experience in every step of the manufacturing process while learning about business, teamwork, leadership, product design, operations, management, and more.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to job shadown professionals - including engineers, welders, and designers - and visit local manufacturing facilities for exclusive behind-the-scenes tours. These experiences help studnets develp a deeper understanding of the industry and explore potential career paths.
At the end of the program, student teams will present their products and experiences at a graduation ceremony. Upon completion with100% attendance, participants will receive a certificate, stipend and other generous rewards. Scholarships will also be available for eligible students.
